Your laid back guide to the perfect weekend in Lexington…..
The perfect weekend plan begins here…..
If you’re looking for a weekend getaway near Kansas City that feels relaxed, walkable, and genuinely enjoyable, this Lexington MO itinerary is exactly that.
Whether you’re planning a romantic getaway near Kansas City or a small group weekend with friends, Lexington offers the kind of charm that makes it easy to slow down without overplanning
Friday afternoon: Take off a little early and stop by Fahrmeiers Market, off 24 hwy just west of Lexington. Pick some strawberries, buy some wine and plants and enjoy the fresh country air. Arrive at The Painted Lady and find your spot. Exhale, feel your shoulders fall away from your ears and let the house do what she does best, welcome YOU. Enjoy dinner at The Feed House, dining in or ordering out. Pop open a bottle of something fruity and connect with the best conversation or one of several Victorian themed board games in the library. Rest well in a snuggly bed with more pillows than you know what to do with.
Saturday: Fair warning, more than one carefully planned itinerary has been ruined by a slow morning at The Painted Lady. Brew yourself a cup or pot of coffee, enjoy the complimentary, scratch-made pastries and find a porch to sip and chat or sip and read or both.
When you are ready, head to downtown Lexington. Just a few blocks away, it’s an easy and walkable way to experience some of the best things to do in Lexington MO. Visit The River Reader, Lexington’s very own indie bookstore. Wander local shops like Tilley and Co, Designs by Rusty, Blackthorn Antiques and more. Don’t miss the “hidden” ice cream shoppe inside The Faded Rose or “The Little Free Art Studio” box outside of DeeVa Salon on Franklin St.
Enjoy lunch at Bailey’s Coffee Shop, then head to The Battle of Lexington State Historic Site and the Anderson House for a tour inside a much older, historically significant old house.
For dinner, take a little drive (15 min) down by the river on 224 hwy to Catfish Charlie’s outside of Wellington. With live music and patio seating along Sni-A-Bar creek, it is a relaxing way to end the day.
Sunday: Cook a little brunch in our well-equipped kitchen and let the weekend catch up with you. Take a walking tour of Lexington’s historic neighborhoods (my favorite is the Walking Tour #5) to stretch your legs before you get back into the car and real life.
Thanks for visiting and come again! There is so much more to see! We have not even touched on the wineries in the area. *wink*
